TPMS Warning Light On? Here's What It Means and What to Do

That horseshoe-shaped warning light on your dashboard is your Tyre Pressure Monitoring System alerting you. Here's what it means and how to respond safely.

The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) has been mandatory on all new cars sold in the EU and UK since 2014. When the TPMS warning light illuminates on your dashboard, it's alerting you to a tyre pressure problem.

Understanding the TPMS Light

  • Solid TPMS light — One or more tyres are 25% or more below the recommended pressure
  • Flashing then solid TPMS light — A fault with the TPMS system itself

What to Do When TPMS Lights Up

  1. 1Safely pull over as soon as possible
  2. 2Visually inspect all four tyres for obvious damage or deflation
  3. 3Use a tyre pressure gauge to check all tyre pressures
  4. 4Inflate any under-inflated tyres to the correct PSI
  5. 5If a tyre appears damaged, call Eddie's Mobile Tyres for emergency repair

Why TPMS is Important

Studies show that 23% of vehicles on UK roads have at least one significantly under-inflated tyre. Under-inflated tyres increase braking distance, fuel consumption, and the risk of a blowout.

TPMS Servicing

TPMS sensors have batteries that typically last 5–10 years. When sensors fail, they need to be replaced. Eddie's Mobile Tyres can diagnose and replace faulty TPMS sensors at your location.
