Not every puncture means you need a new tyre. Find out when a puncture can be safely repaired and when you should replace the tyre entirely.
Getting a puncture is frustrating, but not every puncture means you need a new tyre. Understanding when a repair is safe — and when replacement is necessary — can save you money without compromising safety.
According to British Standard BS AU 159, a tyre puncture can be safely repaired if: - The puncture is in the central tread area (not the shoulder or sidewall) - The hole is no larger than 6mm in diameter - The tyre has sufficient tread depth remaining - There is no secondary damage from driving on a flat tyre
A professional tyre repair involves removing the tyre from the wheel, inspecting it internally, applying a vulcanised patch from the inside, and then refitting and balancing the wheel. Never trust a simple plug-only repair — always insist on an internal patch repair.
Eddie's Mobile Tyres assesses every puncture and advises honestly on whether a repair or replacement is the safest option.
